[ Go back? ]

Happy September! Time really flew by fast. Soon I will go back to school, meet new people, join new clubs, take new tests. And soon I will fall to a cycle of doom torturing myself with Maths and Physics and Chemistry. The mere thought of this scenario terrified me. Imagine how insanely devastating it is when a girl just wanted to be carefree and dumb in peace but the Universe has gotten out of its way to make sure she can't do that. So now she's stucked learning Calculus for eternity.

As summer break is near its end, I hope to finish the site's layout quickly. Coding is not something I've studied and been passionate about for a long time, in fact I used to be quite afraid of it, but this experience - of creating something new, I mean - turns out to be quite nice. Besides, my time wandering around on the indie web is very enjoyable; I think everyone of y'all is so cool, so close-knit, in a way we rarely see anywhere. Seriously. TikTok fyp could never.

I think I should end here. See you soon! Thanks for reading this incomprehensible mess...

The second digital journal entry! Yay! Today is not that exciting, I stayed home, laying in bed, eating Turkish delights and searching for ways to code a guestbook from scratch (the effort soon proved to be fruitless, sadly).

Speaking of Turkish delights, this is the first time I've ever tried one. The name's not misleading: its smell is fresh, some might say... delightful; its texture a frozen jelly-ish chunk, its taste sweet, but in a liquid way. I don't know how to describe this, but there's liquid sweet and solid sweet, right? Like melons, grapes, Fujiya lollipops are liquid-y; while mangoes, boba tea, cinnamon bun, vanilla ice cream are solid-y, fuller, richer. So turns out Turkish delights are liquid sweet, which surprises me as I always assume, confidently so, that they would be like honey, or caramel, basically some sort of milk chocolate filling.

p/s The title of this particular page, The Silver Spoon, is the name of an autobiography written by Kansuke Naka (1885-1965), a light, suitable read if you crave something nostalgic and bittersweet. I just have the urge to talk about it.

Finally starting the journal section (applause!) This is the first time I've ever attempted to write entries in English, so... it may take a lot of time for me to actually get comfortable with the practice. Bear with me please! T_T

One thing I can say for sure is that you should never spend more than 4 hours in a shopping mall, on the weekends. It will kill you. At 3 p.m. I crawled home, desperately longing for a fat, late nap, but ended up watching Teorema on a sketchy streaming site instead.

The experience of watching 60s art films in complete darkness, while feeling delirious from a lack of good sleep, is definitely a surreal one. I decided to watch Teorema having seen Broey Deschanel mentioned it among other "similar" movies / books. The video is great, I always find myself coming back to rewatch it; the works she talked about are amazing too: The Talented Mr. Ripley is, like, my all-time favorite, as well as Brideshead Revisited; I'm not that into The Secret History due to a groundless personal beef with Tartt herself, but I can see why people love it.

(From now on there will be mild spoilers for Teorema, or Theorem, the 1968 Italian movie)

All is well, yes, but Teorema really confused me. Now I can't go to bed peacefully anymore. Its succinct dialogues, convoluted storyline, LOUD soundtrack of church hymns, acting that sometimes caught the viewers off-guard... It's puzzling. What's the theme here? Rich people are impressionable and sexually depraved? Why does the servant have magic? Who or what is the visitor supposed to represent? Or the mailman? This movie might even be one huge allegory of socialism, I don't know... I'm rambling. Maybe I should shut up before being perceived as stupid.

Still I can't help but enjoy the film in all of its absurdities and, moreover, claim the right to brag that I've seen a staple in cool-people-cinema. Thank you, Miss Broey. That's all for today. Excited for what tomorrow brings.

p/s JUST found out the Pasolini that directed this IS the Salò Pasolini. Honestly, makes sense. I can tell if something is made by a controversial gay man.
